The party sets watches. While dinner is being prepared, they noticed that they are being watched by the local fauna. During the night, the coyotes seem to be communicating with each other, not just howling at the moon.
During Maketa Seenaë Dyren‘s watch, she notices a silhouette through the trees. She takes a few steps in to get a better look, and hears a giggle. She tries to follow the sound. All of a sudden the shepherd appears in front of her; He tells her she’s been following a dryad, and had almost wandered out of the glade. He steers her back to camp and makes sure she stays there. She finishes her watch, wakes Tamarie and goes to sleep. Seenaë dreams of following a shadow through the woods.
the party wakes up; Seenaë warns the others about the dryad. As they prepare to leave, Sir Kjarri of Setara;s stirrup breaks. Seenaë and Kjarri realize that neither of them have prayed yet this morning; Kjarri, Sir Tirn of Selvos and Seenaë go pray, but they do not feel any divine connection. They party prepares to leave the glade.
Tamarie believes that the weather may bring heavy fog or even snow; they head back towards the tree with the evil fetishes on it. The party passes back through the ruins and into the lower area. The wind is cold, giving everyone the heebie-jeebies. Shortly after lunch, they arrive in Trieste‘s glade. They introduce him to the ex-chimera, and tell him what happened. He hears of our bad luck that day, and offers to see what’s wrong. He sees that they have been cursed by a dejekis. Nina plans to stay here to deal with the creature while Trieste joins the rest on the journey to the tree.
Once at the tree, Seenaë performs an exorcism, and manages to gain control over the spirit. Tirn asks her to find out what prophecy the spirit was communicating. She manages to get the information, and it’s very disturbing. She sees an old city built on a river delta. The area is oppressive; she sees a line of red flame raining in from one side, and a line of blue from the other. They meet and the surrounding area immolates. Fire rains from the sky and comes up from below the ground. The docks burn and people come running out, already dead but still screaming. She hears the voice of the malevolence in the area calling to her, and she runs. She gets swept up by the flame and feels herself burn, becoming part of the flame. She has always been part of the flame.
Seenaë comes out of her trance; she still sees a reflection of the burning world. She releases control of the spirit. Seenaë still feels very distracted; Trieste hugs her, and she feels a little better. Trieste and Tirn burn the tree while Kjarri takes her back to camp.
Back in camp, Seenaë still sees the burning., but the effect is better. Nina gives her tea, and the lynx comforts her. Once the rest of the party returns, Seenaë tells everyone the prophecy she’s seen. Tirn realizes that it’s similar to the prophecy he was given from Larani about how the world will burn because of the war. Seenaë realizes the city she was burning was Golotha. The party eats some chowder with truffle shavings, and rests for the night with the usual watches.
During Seenaë’s watch, something strange comes into the glade; it tries to hide behind a tree, but finally just sits with its back to the tree, watching the party. She points it out to Tamarie as the watches are switched.
In the morning, the ex-chimera wakes. He comes out of the hut, takes a bowl and sits. The party learns his name is Tomin. Trieste tells the party that the creature Seenaë saw last night was a Nola. It is still asleep. With Trieste’s help, they ask the female coyote about what has been chasing them; they find out that Tomin was one of the things chasing the beasts. They speak more with Tomin; he is over 40 years old, and performed the spell turning him into a chimera when he was about 18. He thinks he knows what the coyote is speaking about: there are Ilvirians in the area that embody the madness. Tomin says they are committing souls to Ilvir’s name as building blocks for more creatures. They are trying to turn Ilvir into an active force. They then speak to the Nola, and ask him if he knows anything about these Ilvirians. He does, and knows where to find them. They have made a temple in his home to a compilation of gods, Ilvir and his spawn. They have a large blue egg that smells of earth and death and metal. They pray to it and offer it souls. The nola tells it does not smell of Ilvir. He also tells the party of Morgathians in the area, and that there are humans living around the old ruins.
