While in Chapel, a young boy comes in and requests that the three of them follow him. Once outside the chapel, he informs them that Nina and Tamarie are heading up the rooms of The Motley Fool, with him on a stretcher. Seenaë runs to the Fool’s room. Upon arrival, they find that the Fool is there as well, and that both Fools have been injured and poisoned. Seenaë manages to stabilize them both and to arrest the progress of the poison. Nina lets the group know that the man who attacked the Fools was one of the Black Guard. With that, the others rush off to find the Prince and Sir Reynald Milaka while Seenaë remains to watch over the Fools. The King’s Fool sends Tamarie to find his belt pouch, and informs her that if he is incapacitated, she is to go to the alchemist in town. When Tamarie returns, she informs Seenaë that the King’s Fool’s rooms have been ransacked. She tells Seenaë that she is going to check that the prisoner is still in the jail. Seenaë braces a chair against the door, makes the Fools comfortable, and sits on the floor to play with the Prince’s Fool’s puppy.
Seenaë hears a knock at the door. It’s Nina along with Clemens of Desforia. She lets them in, and Nina informs her that the Prince has also been poisoned. Seenaë leaves Master Clemens and Nina to oversee the Fools and rushes to the Prince’s rooms.
Seenaë reached the Prince’s rooms, and meets Kjarri on the way. The Prince is ok, but is dehydrated. Knight-Commer Bodik has arrested the poison, and she learns he is a priest. Seenaë leaves Kjarri behind and goes back to check on the Fools. On the way out of the Prince’s rooms, she finds Bodick speaking with a servant. Tamarie has requested the two of us in the jail. They head down, and during the walk, Seenaë asks about what Bodik did to slow the poison.
Seenaë and Bodik enter the cells and find a wet Tamarie wrapped in a blanket. Seenaë sends her off to change, and she and Bodik examine and heal the prisoner. They manage to heal him enough to bring him back to consciousness and question him.
The rest of the group comes down to the cells and they begin to question Jonathan, the name who attacked the Fools. They discover that he is posessed by something. They call for the Belsirisans and Sir Ekrin. They come, and realize that Jonathan is under the influence of a spell, and that it is not a possession. Sir Ekrin questions him, but he can’t get answers from the thing overshadowing him. Kjarri manages to cancel the spell, and Jonathan drops sobbing to his knees. Ekrin and Seenaë spend some time with him on the ritual of atonement, and arrangements are made for Jonathan when he is ready to move on.
The party spends a quiet evening. Ar one point, Master Clemens gathers up the party and they meet together in a private room. Master Clemens informs them that the Prince wishes to reward them for saving his life, and Master Clemens wants to thanks us for saving the Motley Fool. They don’t come to a decision, but are offered a bottle of fine alcohol and the baths privately for the evening.
After a few toasts, the party retreats to the bath. Each of them have an attendant of the opposite sex. They have a lovely evening.
