They wake one morning to hear Ebaseth Yoesf of Kesyn cursing because the well has been befouled by a dead body. He sends two soldiers down to clean up and plant purity sticks. Sir Tirn of Selvos questions Ruby about any other sources of befoulment; she sees a befoulment between two keeps up the river. Tamarie goes out with a group; they find a dead horse in the river. Maketa Seenaë Dyren spends the day helping out as she can, seeming to find many helping hands among all classes of folks. It’s decided that everyone will leave for Henwe the next day. The party’s teamster heads back to Selvos with a group bringing the party’s loot and instructions to liquidate most of it with the chandler. During this last night before departure, Larissa of Kephar wanders through the camp, talking to people. She is exhausted and mentions the possibility of a premonition.
Tamarie comes to see Seenaë and tells her about speaking with the Sarduran and what the Fool told her. Seenaë notes that Mendez has been with her a lot lately; she heads to where the Sarduran was, first asking for guidance from Mendez. The party finally regroups and goes looking for what the problem is. The Sarduran joins them. They get to the old woman’s house and fight a nightmare creature. once they prevail, the Sarduran tells them that this was only a distraction. They run to the Prince’s tent and fight off four assassins. All the holy-skilled people, such as the paladins or the fools, are either sick or befuddled. Thanks to Tirn, they discover that there is one more assassin. Tirn and Kjarri go off to find him; Tamarie sits in a tree near the Prince’s tent to keep watch, and Seenaë goes with the prince to the healing tents, leaving behind a decoy. The group succeeds in catching the last assassin.
