Wonders of wonders. The party goes out on patrol – and nothing happens!
But when they get back to Selvos, however … our story begins.
A month passes. During that month, the party is sent out with Reblana Larissa and Dame Palycia of Meldamar on one of Larissa’s tours of duty, adjudicating various cases in neighbouring villages. The group learns much about the role of an adjudicator, and about the law and the role the Knights of Larani have in it. The party and the Knights return to Selvos with a young boy named Arten, who will be joining the Order.
12th of Nolus
Upon return to Selvos, the party learns that one of the sanctuary seekers, the sailor, has left the city for good, and the other (the carpenter) has petitioned to become a priest of Peoni. He has been accepted by and has begun training with Father Yosef. We try to settle young Arten in, and return to regular duties.
14th of Nolus, middle of the night
The temple bell sounds, raising the alarm. The mill is on fire. The Temple- and town-folk fight the fire as best as possible. Father Yosef and his newest compatriot spend some hours chanting near the well, and near dawn a storm breaks, putting an end to the blaze. The mill itself is salvageable, but the 6 granaries and the grain therein are a complete loss. The rest of the day passes in work. All the bread and flour in the Temple kitchens are given to the families in town, and the remainder goes to the Peonian temple.
The next few days are hard. Prices of meals and drinks double overnight. The 15th is quiet expect for grumblings about town.
16th of Nolus, noon
Temple bell raises another alarm. The bonding house is on fire. It is quickly contained – the fire started in a barrel in one of the smaller lockers, and was put out quickly. The barrel of arrows in question is owned by Sir Tessero Fabre. It was brought in by a squire of the Green Owls, Gerald or Garrick or something like that. Sire Tessero usually signs documents to the bonding house and affixes his seal, but these only had the seal and a mark. Sir Tirn discovers some caustic substance on the inside of the barrel. The party decides to bring their findings to Seloran Barald Palgen. After presenting their findings, the party obtains a letter of introduction to Sir Tessero, and they go to the Keep to speak with him.
At the Keep, the party is informed that Sir Tessero’s at the White Gold Inn. Most of the party hastens there to speak with him, while Sir Kjarri goes to the Guild of Arcane lore to learn what the substance is. He affirms that he has not sent anything to the bonding house since last fall, and has no knowledge of who the mystery squire might be. The party returns with him to the Keep, and Sir Tessero gallantly offers Matakea Seenaë the use of his horse. Nina goes on ahead with one of Sir Tessero’s man, to see if his seal is where it should be. Upon the rest of the party’s arrival, it is made known that the seal is not to be found. Sir Tessero bellows an order to the general populace of the keep to find his seal. It cannot be found. Sir Kjarri meets the rest of the party at the keep, with news of what the caustic substance found in the barrel was. It is Karegia Oil, and is extremely flammable. Thew party returns to the mill lo search for evidence of the oil having been used there as well as at the bonding house.
A careful examination of the mill is made. With the help of Larani’s light and Sir Kjarri’s mother Aandin‘s alchemical knowledge, the party finds that the grease used on the millstone’s shaft had the oil in it, and it was most likely the friction that cause the blaze.
