The ship comes into Aleath on the afternoon tide. As the ship docks, a runner comes up. He informs the party that mail is waiting for them at the harbormaster’s office. They are informed that one of the things waiting for them is a cage, and Florentina (Nina) runs off ahead. Maketa Seenaë Dyren follows.
They reach the office: Heran, a member of the King’s Voice, is there and loudly welcomes them. The place quiets down and Nina and Seenaë are given a place behind Heran at the head of the line. He passes letters to the harbormaster, and the official turns to the party. They identify themselves to the harbormaster and their mail is handed over, including a cage. A loud screech is heard from the cage: it’s Nina’s monkey. His name is Parga. She takes him out of the cage and they leave the office.
Walking out, they see The King’s Fool. Sir Tirn of Selvos finds out that his girlfriend is in town and he heads to the castle to see her. Seenaë asks the king’s fool if he knows where to get a larger cage and bed for the monkey. She also invites the Fool to join them for a drink at the inn.
When they enter the inn, they recognize the mage from teh King’s Voice, Mistress Jaella. She tells us a bit about monkeys like Parga. The fool informs the party that there is someone looking to work as his counterpart in the King’s service. He doesn’t hate this man as much as he hates Lonvele; the man has been told he needs to make friends with the Prince’s Voice before he will even be considered. The man’s name is Kedlin. Seenaë spends time chatting with the Fool and once he leaves for business, she heads to the Laranian temple.
