The eve of the group’s departure for Winter Court. They are invited for dinner at the keep with Sir Temilin Chahrvn and the others who will be traveling. The evening is spent getting to know their fellow travelers.
Shortly before dawn, all assemble in the keep to head to Deneir. The plan is to get there in 2 days; 12 packhorses are being brought. They will meet with the rest of the party in Deneir. The morning is clear is cool. Within a few hours, they come across a recent depression: a major landslide occurred here. It was near here that the party encountered the Miurka. They are delayed for a few hours as they go around the obstacle. The group breaks for a rest before noon, but Sir Temelin is restless. After a short break, they continue. Late in the second watch, Palycia of Meldamar, Sir Sarath Jattele and Sir Kjarri of Setara notice a hole in one of the grain bags. The party stops to fix it, and it is noticed that many bags have the same flaw. It seems suspicious. Sir Sareth asks Maketa Seenaë Dyren if she thinks this was a plot to slow the group down. They keep a stronger watch.
At the end of the watch, they stop and set up for the night. Four tents are planted. During the 5th watch, consisting of Seenaë Sir Tirn of Selvos and three of the Green Owls from Selvos hear a strange noise. A boar attacks the fire; Tirn and Seenaë manage to kill it, and bacon is had by all.
Metakea Dorel Kerdar helps Nina butcher and prepare the boar meat. The group leaves as soon as it is ready for travel. Signs are seen of a large band of people traveling across the road; these men did not wear boots, indicating they were one of the local barbarian tribes, possibly the Gozyda. A few hours later, they stop to rest the horses. At the end of the rest period, they see a peddler coming towards them from Deneir; they share knowledge of the road. Near evening, the group arrives in Deneir.
The party goes with Sir Temelin to the caer for the evening. They greet Sir Pavers Xelados and family. Lady Miara Korades will be accompanying the earl’s group to Winter Court. With her will be Sir Cadeb Vandor; Elber Vandor, a bard; Savas of Lerech; Jonker of Artuther; Melek of Oklin; and Linia of Thardis. The travelers now total 25. They rest for a day in Deneir, and will depart in the morning. The horses are rested and stores are topped up. The rest of the trip is expected to take 10 days.
The day dawns cloudy. All gather in the courtyard; Lady Miara is in full armor, with an embossed image of a sword. The group departs. When they reach the heath, the land changes dramatically and the weather turns colder. Savas and Jonker ride forward to find the path, it starts to rain near the end of the first watch.
At the first break, the two aren’t happy with the distance traveled; they discuss with Lady Miara and Sir Temelin how to speed up the travel.
As the group prepares to continue, they hear strange noises from the heath: Vlasta. Wolf howls are heard just after. They are hear throughout the day and night, but no beasts come into sight.
It rains, it clears up, it rains. When clear, the weather is cold.
On the morning of the 22nd, some cattle are spotted wandering the heath.
The rain stops this evening. It is cloudy for the next 3 days.
Arrival in Dunayn. Fire is seen from a distance. Dorel and Seenaë confer, and Dorel casts a spell that allows everyone to reach the outpost in only half an hour. The building is aflame and the tower burns form the inside. Combat is seen: Sir Temelin calls for a halt. After the fighting is ended, there are 24 left alive: 10 friendly and 14 enemies. Seenaë helps the wounded, and Sir Temelin introduces Sir Faenae. A new group of knights arrive from Menkod. Sir Sareth hails them from a distance. That group is led by Sir Syman of Tolfane, the Chabla of the Chequered Shield. With him are 8 knights and some Peonians from the order of Saint Balsirisan. Near dawn, Sir Syman holds a mass; his voice is very moving.
Arrival in Menkod. Lady Miara tells the group that Sir Symon cares much more than he shows, and will give the clothes off his back to any in need. The party is taken to the keep and left in the care of a young squire named Aaron. They are housed in one of the guard towers. Aaron will act as the party’s liaison. They hear a horn: Prince Anaflas Milaka has arrived. Aaron summons the party to Sir Temelin in the great hall. Clemens of Desforia enters, followed by Prince Anaflas and his bodyguard Thomas. The party is invited to dine with the prince.
At dinnertime, Clemens summons the party and brings them to the prince. He is seated at a table flanked by his bodyguards Thomas and Michael, a mercenary from Tharda. The prince talks to the party of the many things to be discussed at court, such as whether or not Kanday will accept the proposal of Sir Tenchyn, the earl in Retham asking for help in overthrowing his king. He also speaks of rumors of strange things in the Tenu Heath; many Agrikans were seen entering the area, and it feels like “something” has been opened. The prince then offers the party a position as his Finders. After dinner, the prince departs and Clements offers his help in navigating the politics and heraldry at court. The party decides to go back to their tower to discuss the proposal.
